The Circle of Security (COS) is an approach to early childhood attachment and parenting that focuses on fostering secure attachment relationships between children and their caregivers. The key aspects of the COSP model are listed below.

Commitment
Parents are required to commit to changing their behaviour and understand their child's needs deeply.

Attachment
Children need to feel secure enough to explore their environment. They also need to feel safe to return for comfort or reassurance when they feel overwhelmed or scared. Enhanced Attachment leads to stronger, more secure attachments between parent and child. It can be emotionally demanding for parents to reflect on their own attachment histories or current relational dynamics

Family Circle
The model supports a child's need where children move out to explore and back in for comfort. Parents are at the centre, providing support for both movements.

Parental Roles
Parents offer comfort, safety and provides a secure base from which the child can explore.

Sensitivity
Notice what the child is feeling and needing. Support the child with their emotional states, whether it's joy, fear, or sadness. Build self-esteem by showing joy in the child’s existence.

Implementation
Parents identify their interactions with their child to identify moments where they can better respond to the child's attachment cues. Parents develop a plan to understand and respond to their child's emotional needs better. Child development plan supports better social, emotional, and cognitive development. As children feel more secure behavioural problems can be reduced and behavioural improvements can be made.
