Energy Bills

This is the first step in the Home Energy Support visit after the person receiving the support has discussed their energy concerns with the support worker.

Check for Disconnection

If there is no power or the energy bill has a disconnection notice, then call your energy company right away.

Switch Plans

Getting on a good energy plan can save hundreds of dollars each year. Call your energy company and ask if you’re on the best value plan or use www.energymadeeasy.gov.au

Check Discounts

You may be able to reduce the money you owe your energy company. Ask them if you are eligible for a pensioner concession or energy hardship voucher.

Compare Energy Costs to Other Households

Household Energy Support will have the up-to-date average cost for energy with a similar household.

Compare Energy Usage

Check how much energy you are consuming for the same time the previous year. This may tell you if you are consuming more; leaking heating, cooling or hot water; or if further investigation is required.

Record Meter Readings

It is hard to see if you are using less energy with any action taken as there are too many other factors. The temperature and change in seasons play a major factor in this. For example, a household may wear different clothing due to the change in seasons. There the household can read a meter from day to day or week to week to see if they are using less. They will need to start with a base reading.
