Our Initiatives
Our Initiatives
Yeddung Mura’s Initiatives are community-based programmes that protect and empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples by addressing systemic challenges through monthly Support Group Yarning Circles. These are run when the corresponding Empowerment Yarning Circles are not available. Also in each of the initiatives these is a support action plans for escalations. They are part of the Your Journey, Our Support framework.
Domestic Violence Support
This programme supports individuals, fosters resilience, and reduces harm through the monthly support group and by protecting individuals, families, and communities through a diversion centre with de-escalation strategies as action plans for crisis escalation to prevent violence.

Employment Support
This programme supports job-seekers and workers, fosters career resilience, and promotes economic empowerment through monthly Support Group Yarning Circles, equipping clients with skills and opportunities to secure jobs and addressing barriers like limited experience and stigma to support reintegration and reduce recidivism. The Yarning Circles dedicate the first half to discussing job-seeking or career planning and the second half to addressing workplace stresses, fostering peer support and strategies. In partnership with TCCS, NSW TAFE, and local businesses, we provide intensive support through our “Soft Landing” approach, offering culturally safe training programmes in areas like construction, horticulture, and automotive to build job-ready skills, alongside assistance with resume building and interview preparation. Group employment opportunities, supported by our staff, help overcome barriers like Centrelink payment reductions and employer reluctance, ensuring gradual entry into low to semi-skilled roles. The action plan for workplace issues includes job retention support, such as mediation and cultural training for employers, to enhance workplace stability and sustain employment.
Home Energy Support
Ensures access to affordable energy, reducing financial stress and supporting stable, thriving communities. By alleviating energy costs, this programme helps families focus on healing and reintegration, strengthening community resilience with action plans for escalation to maintain energy connection and reduce financial stress.
