Walking alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, cultivating healing and thriving through their justice system journey.

Our Programs

Their Journey, Our Support

Yeddung Mura delivers a suite of culturally safe, Aboriginal-led programs supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and families impacted by the justice system and intergenerational trauma. Our holistic services include throughcare, family support, court assistance, transitional housing, employment pathways, yarning circles, and healing programs. Delivered by Aboriginal staff and guided by Elders, our programs strengthen wellbeing, cultural connection, and community reintegration.

Employment

The Yeddung Mura Employment Program supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people facing barriers to employment — including limited work experience, skill gaps, personal challenges, or involvement with the justice system — to build real skills, gain confidence, and move into sustainable employment.

Through tailored training, practical work experience, and ongoing personalised support, the program creates meaningful and lasting career pathways in a culturally safe, Aboriginal-led environment.

Empowerment Yarning Circles

The Empowerment Yarning Circles program, delivered by Yeddung Mura Aboriginal Corporation, offers a series of culturally safe yarning circles for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people exiting the Alexander Maconochie Centre. The program focuses on enabling participants to stay in the community and successfully rebuild their lives by addressing trauma, rebuilding cultural identity, strengthening personal resilience and reducing the risk of reoffending. It provides a supportive, non-judgemental environment where participants can share experiences, learn from Elders and peers, and develop practical strategies for long-term wellbeing.

Family, Domestic & Sexual Violence

The Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence (FDSV) Aboriginal Support Program, delivered by Yeddung Mura Aboriginal Corporation, provides culturally safe, trauma-informed support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, families and communities affected by family, domestic and sexual violence.

Funded as part of the ACT’s commitment to community-led responses, the program includes men’s diversion activities, trauma-informed community education, family-centred healing camps, yarning circles and integration with financial counselling. It aims to break cycles of violence, support healing and reduce harm while complementing broader justice reinvestment and throughcare efforts.

Galamby Court

The Galambany Courts Program is delivered by Yeddung Mura to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people involved in the justice system. The program provides culturally safe case management, guidance, and connections to essential services such as housing, health, and social supports. It is designed in close consultation with the community to ensure relevance, effectiveness, and cultural grounding. Participants are empowered to navigate the justice system, develop life skills, and create sustainable pathways toward positive outcomes. Through this program, Yeddung Mura strengthens cultural identity, community-led leadership, and long-term wellbeing for individuals and families.

In the 2024–2025 period the program delivered 655 contacts and 533.28 hours of direct support to 163 clients (116 male, 44 female, 1 other).

Galambany Court

We support clients with transport, motivational interviewing, and holistic care during circle sentencing, helping them navigate the court process with confidence and access rehab options.

Home Energy Support

The First Nations Home Energy Support Program, delivered by Yeddung Mura Aboriginal Corporation, provides culturally appropriate assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander households to improve energy literacy, reduce energy costs and increase thermal comfort in the home.

The program supports families experiencing financial stress related to energy bills, particularly those transitioning from custody or involved in justice reinvestment initiatives. It helps maintain stable housing by preventing disconnections and supports overall wellbeing so clients can focus on healing and community reintegration.

iCan

The iCAN Program is designed for people like yourself who have experienced multiple periods of incarceration and need a stronger level of help with more tools to heal and rebuild a stable life. iCAN gives you dedicated, individualised support prior to release from custody through to joining the Throughcare program.

Justice Housing

The Justice Housing Program, delivered by Yeddung Mura Aboriginal Corporation in partnership with ACT Corrective Services and the ACT Government, provides transitional accommodation and intensive support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people exiting the Alexander Maconochie Centre or at risk of remand.

The program offers short-term stable housing (typically up to 6 weeks, with possible extensions) in a supportive, homelike environment. It aims to reduce homelessness, support successful reintegration, improve housing stability and contribute to lower rates of reoffending by addressing one of the biggest barriers faced by people leaving custody.

Throughcare

The Yeddung Mura Throughcare Program works in collaboration with ACT Corrective Services Throughcare Unit to provide individualised and intensive case managed and trauma informed support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men and women exiting the Alexander Maconochie Centre following a custodial sentence.

Our Case Management framework begins with addressing the basic needs of clients, such as accommodation, clothing and food. Clients are encouraged and motivated with smaller wins with ID cards, licenses, birth certificates, white cards etc. We strongly believe that success for a client depends on this healthy mind and healthy body.

In the 2024–2025 period the program delivered 1,518 contacts and 1,347.43 hours of direct support to 111 clients (97 male, 1 other).

Yarrabi Bamirr

The Yarrabi Bamirr program is here to help you and your family walk tall and build a stronger, healthier future together. We provide culturally safe, family-centred support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families who have contact with the justice system or have experienced intergenerational trauma. You’ll work with dedicated workers who help create a personalised family plan covering housing, health, education, family relationships, access to services and more. Guided by Aboriginal Elders and community mentors, we focus on healing, connection to culture and breaking cycles in a welcoming and empowering environment.
