Your Journey, Our Support
We walk with you as an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, to help you heal and thrive through every phase of your justice journey.
We provide these services to walk with you to where you need on your road to healing and thriving in your community. Our free My Care Journey offers personalised care to guide you through each step of your journey. Every client receives case management, creating a tailored plan that integrates individual services and yarning circles to ensure holistic support for your unique needs.
My Care Journey is available through five phases to guide you at every step:
Court Support: Help you to navigate court. Yarning circle access can also be provided.
Prison Support: Fostering hope and connection while you’re detained. Yarning circles can also provide assistance in the prison community with its various situations. Family also have access to community services at this time.
Release Support: Supporting your transition from prison to a safe environment so you can establish yourself in the community safely and successfully. This support is planned prior to release.
Community Support: Helping you rebuild in the community. The services meet individual needs and the plan is prepared during the Release Support phase to enable a swift transition.
Transition Support: Guiding you toward long-term stability in your community is the main goal, however as the My Journey, Our Support program is volunteer we also provide the best situation possible prior to leaving Yeddung Mura. Information is provided for all services in the community that can be accessed.
What’s Available When:
Galambany Court is only available during the Court Support phase.
Accommodation and parole reporting are available during the Release Support, Community Support, and Transition Support phases.
Employment is available during the Transition Support phase. The employment yarning circle provides keys to successful employment and the support yarning circle provides monthly support with action plans to manage situations that arise.
Our Drop-In Centre is available during the Court Support, Release Support, Community Support, and Transition Support phases, and for families of detainees during the Prison Support phase. Families can access other community services to stay connected, e.g., transport.
Accommodation
We provide transitional accommodation for detainees upon release, ensuring a smooth journey to permanent housing during the Community Support phase. Our culturally sensitive support helps clients rebuild stability.
Case Management
Every client is paired with a dedicated caseworker. Our trauma-informed Throughcare Program, in partnership with ACT Corrective Services, promotes reintegration through holistic support for mind and body.
Chaplaincy
Led by Aboriginal Elders, our Chaplaincy Program offers spiritual and emotional support through weekly visits, counselling, and chapel services, fostering hope and connection for detainees and families.
Drop-in Centre
Located in Fadden, our 1.3-hectare facility provides a safe haven with recreational activities, therapy pets, and job training in an industrial kitchen, keeping clients engaged and drug-free.
Family Support
We foster reconnection and strengthen relationships through culturally safe initiatives like family reconciliation and community events.
Mentoring
Our community mentoring program, led by trained Aboriginal volunteers, supports reintegration through one system: one-on-one guidance, fostering confidence, independence, and cultural connections for detainees adjusting to life outside prison.
Parole Reporting
We assist clients with time management and emotional support to meet parole requirements, helping them view it as part of completing their sentence with dignity.
Peer Support
Our peer-led groups allow clients to share experiences, replacing shame with hope and encouraging a life of contribution to the community.
Transport
We provide transport support from release day through the Community Support phase, ensuring clients can access services and appointments despite resource constraints.
