Yarning Circles for Justice
A series of 26 week programs whose focus is on enabling ex-detainees to stay in the community and re-build their lives – rather than return to prison. Clients will engaged in daily activities and re-establish crucial links to community and culture, restore relationships with friends, family and peers, and acclimatise to managing their own lives on the outside in order to reduce recidivism and contribute to improving life outcomes. The programs will be delivered by specialist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations and enterprises with separate opportunities to women and men inside and outside prison and may include children/family.
A program that works in collaboration with the ACT Corrective Services Throughcare Unit to provide individualised and intensive case managed and trauma informed support, in order to work together with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men and women exiting the Alexander Maconochie Centre following a custodial sentence.
